Houston Disaster Response
What Grace is Doing to Help

Over the past week you have probably heard many difficult stories that have resulted from the winds and flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. The needs are tremendous and many of you know this firsthand from family or friends that have been impacted by this disaster. We all want to help. In this fluid situation, here are four ways you can help:

1. Pray

Pray for the individuals and families who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

2. Volunteer

We have team headed to Houston to help with cleanups in accessible neighborhoods as well as with donation sorting. Please email Louellen Lowe to register, louellenl@gcc.org. Here are trip details:

Dates: Monday 9/4, 9:00am – Friday 9/8

September 22-25: Clean Out of Damaged Homes

October 6-9: Float Dry Wall / Clean Out Salvageable Homes

October 20-23: Float Dry Wall

Location: Base at Houston’s First Baptist Church and travel to accessible neighborhoods.

Logistics: Houston FBC will provide meals, showers, and lodging, volunteers need to bring air mattress, pillow, and sleeping bag for lodging at FBC facility.

3. Give Financially

Give financially as you feel led. We recommend directing your funds to Samaritan’s Purse or World Vision who have trained disaster relief volunteers on the ground. If you prefer to give locally in Houston you can donate to Houston’s First Baptist Church Love First Disaster Relief Fund.

4. Donate Necessities

People who would like to donate necessities can purchase the following high-priority items for the Grace Community Church volunteer team to deliver in Houston.  Donation stations will be available at each Grace Community Church Campus on Sunday morning September 3rd.  We will continue receiving these items at Grace Community School MondayThursday from 8am-3pm,  Fridays from 8am-1pm, and at all church campuses on Sundays.

Bleach, gloves, cleaning supplies, face masks, fans, and dehumidifiers

We will continue to communicate the needs via social media and email. Please email stephenw@gcc.org with any questions.
